Chanel pearls

I saw this pearl manicure a few days ago on Polish You Pretty and had been thinking about how I could make something similar but a bit more wearable…something less ‘sculptural.’

nails from Polish You Pretty

I thought pearlescent dots in Chanel’s Intermezzo would be a good substitute. I can’t find the polish anywhere. I think it was a limited release color from a few years ago. It’s pretty white with a pink iridescence.

For this manicure I used Dior Blue Label (my new FAVORITE blue) as a base color. Then I used a dotting tool to make varying sized dots in Intermezzo around the moon of my nail bed.

Pretty easy.

green and gold nails

green on green

I spotted this manicureon Pinterest the other day and have been wanting to recreate it since.

nails by Madeline Poole

Hands down this may be one of my favorites to date. I am already envisioning this design in reds, in taupes and in dark blues. There is something really chic and elegant about it being a two tone/gradient play on color. It’s also super easy to do too.

NARS Zulu is such a great polish. I love the jelly finish it has.

To keep the moons of my nail clean I used some french manicure tip guides.(I need to get some good old fashion binder hole reinforcement stickers though. The french manicure guides don’t give a curved enough line.) I painted 1 coat of Color Club Artsy Crafty along the rest of my nail. I then used NARS Zulu to paint just the lower half of my nails. I used a gold glitter nail striper to make a thin glitter line between the two colors and that was that. Top coat, done!

love this manicure

Fireflies on the Water

Mark and I made a trip up to the Whitney on Saturday to catch the Kusama show before it came down.

To be honest the best part of the show is Fireflies on the Water, an awesome vertigo inducing experience. For the piece Kusama created a dark mirror lined room with small multi-colored fairy lights dangling within. The floor of the room is covered in several inches of water. Get it? fireflies over water.

As the viewer, you walk onto a small platform an inch above the water line and take in the infinite stretch of twinkling lights and 360 degree view of your butt.

It’s really beautiful, if you have a nice butt.

fall time floral

It’s starting to feel autumnal in NYC! Time for sweaters and cozy evenings. I am very excited for muted colors after a summer of neon.

I spotted this fun tree branch floral design on Whale’s nails and wanted to make a more seasonally appropriate version for September.

I used Chanel Frenzy as a base, Essie Skirting the Issue and Recessionista for the floral motifs. I mixed Skirting the Issue with some white to make the light pink color and added a few dots of white for highlights. I used OPI You Don’t Know Jacques for the branches.

fall colors chevron

chevron

Once I figured out how to do chevron I have been hooked on the design. It looks super impressive and very cool. I will not lie, it is a bitch to do and takes a long time, but I think the final result is well worth the effort. In these colors it almost feels like herringbone.

For this I used Dior Safari Beige as the base color. My thumb is Essie Playa del Platinum, followed by Essie Sew Psyched, OPI You Don’t Know Jacques, Chanel Frenzy and Essie Bordeaux.
